I need to get a compact fridge that uses only 1.5 amps. How do you tell how many amps the fridge uses?
there is suppossed to be an electrical data plate on the device, usually located next to the where the power plug is connected. It should give the voltage and amp ratings. Don’t pay any attention to the advertising brochures, they are often misleading or incorrect. The data plate has to be correct by law.

Hi-the fridge should be rated in Watts or wattage ie 200w.
Current(amps)=Power(watts) divided by Voltage,
So in this case 200/230(UK voltage)=0.87 amps.
Obviously this is dependent on where you are-mains voltages differ from country to country-but the formula still applies.
The maximum wattage fridge you can get for 1.5 amps will be:
1.5×230=345 watts.
Hope this helps.
Richard.
